Al Alsun Conference

Call for abstracts and participants in the International Conference on "Cultural Politics:Contemporary Visions in Language, Literature and Translation" on April 18 - 19, 2011 at Ain Shams University, Cairo, Egypt, under the Auspices of Prof. Maged El-Deeb, President of Ain Shams University. See http://alsun.net/.

Culture unites where politics divides. When traditional politics reaches a deadlock, intellectuals have to take it upon themselves to revise the politics of culture and examine the workings of the cultural setting both in the Arab and Western worlds. The role of culture has been recently questioned, with the evolving of a consumption-oriented attitude that has taken over the Arab and Western societies and negatively affected their ethics and cultural taste. Trust in the cultural system can, however, be restored when culture and scientific research address the problems and issues of society and strive to find a way-out of the current cultural recession. The sole means to realize this is by achieving the integration between culture and society and by viewing their alliance as the guide to a future where the Arab mind proves to be capable of engaging in interactive dialogue, on an equal footing with other cultures.
