Second Annual Translator Training Workshop Kicks Off in Cairo

Starting today (15 September) in Cairo, Literature Across Frontiers is co-organizing a week-long course for Arabic translators working with seven different source languages. This is the second training session, hosted at Al-Alsun Faculty in Ain Shams University, that brings together emerging translators with leading professionals:

Although participants will attend day-long sessions, the morning talks at al-Alsun are open to the public. According to organizers, they will consist of a series of moderated panel discussions covering key practical topics, including: rights and responsibilities of the translator, how to pitch to a publisher, selection of foreign books for translation into Arabic, the marketing of translated literature in Egypt, and grants available for translation projects.

The seven source languages are: Turkish, Italian, English, French, Spanish, German, and Czech.

Featured speakers include Turkish literary agent Nermin Mollaoglu, multi-award-winning Lebanese children’s author and translator Fatima Sharafeddine, German author Christoph Peters, novelist Mansoura Ez Eldin, publisher Balsam Saad, and many others.
