Databases 

Arabic Union Catalog is a nonprofit, bibliographic service that provides information on all library-held Arabic records. The initiative is funded by King Abdlaziz Public library, Saudi Arabia.

A free database of abstracts set up in 2001 by Javier Franco of Alicante University, Spain.

A service run by the British Library which allows researchers to search for and download full doctoral theses in their area.

Research and development efforts at the Joint Research Centre produced novel and unique software that gathers reports from news portals world-wide in 43 languages, classifies the articles, analyses the news texts by extracting information from them, aggregates the information, issues alerts and produces intuitive visual presentations of the information found.

The Index Translationum is a list of books translated in the world. The database contains cumulative bibliographical information on books translated and published in about one hundred of the UNESCO Member States since 1979 and totals more than 2.000.000 entries in all disciplines: literature, social and human sciences, natural and exact sciences, art, history and so forth.

This center aims at policy making, organizing, and developing translation and publication of Islamic teachings and humanities in a variety of languages. Removing drawbacks and shortages of Persian and Arabic Islamic texts in the mentioned fields are of main reasons to establish the center. Given the lack of previous relevant experiences and the background in Islamic Republic of Iran, dearth of scientific and specialized perspectives, and proficient foreign translators in the fields of Islamic thoughts and humanities, this center has undertaken to implement such organization and promulgation in order to select and prioritize books and translation of related topics of each society and readership.

A three-year AHRC collaboration between King’s College London, Queen’s University Belfast and the University of Oxford which aims to make the riches of the theatres of Spain and Spanish America accessible to English-speaking researchers and theatre professionals. The database contains details of plays written in Spanish in different periods and countries, as well as information about their authors, sample translations into English, synopses, performance histories and many other tools for interpreting the featured drama.

This is an excellent resource which provides detailed information about the world’s great writers and emerging voices. It is launchied with a focus on writing from the Arab region. There is also a blog with daily posts about translation, world literature and literature online.

Three Percent was named after the oft-cited statistic that only 3% of books published in the U.S. are translations.  The database offers free access to a fairly accurate record of the books published in translation since January 1st, 2008. The aim is to identify how many new books and new voices are being made available to English-speaking readers.

TSA Online consists of abstracts of monographs, edited volumes, reference works, bibliographies, masters and doctoral dissertations, and individual articles from an extensive list of journals, electronic publications and collected volumes, covering all aspects of research within the fields of translation studies and crosscultural communication.

A database compiled in the six official languages of the United Nations (including Arabic) in response to diverse and wide-ranging demands of United Nations language staff for terminology and nomenclature. It is made available on the Internet to facilitate the efforts of people around the world who participate in the work of the United Nations but do not have access to the Secretariat’s intranet.
