Job Vacancies: Asso Professor/ Ass’t Professor in Translation and/or Interpreting (2 positions)

The Translation Programme of the Department of English Language and Literature invites applications for the positions of Associate Professor / Assistant Professor in Translation and/or Interpreting (2 positions) (PR184/13-14) .








The Programme was established in 1990 with the aim of training sophisticated cross-cultural communicators to serve the local community and the Chinese Mainland, and has since become one of the leading such programmes in the region. The media of instruction are English and Cantonese/Putonghua.

The appointees will undertake undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, be expected to play an active role in related research and publication, and take on an appropriate amount of administrative duties. They will also be responsible for supervision of undergraduate honours projects and postgraduate dissertations at the Master's and Doctoral level.

Applicants should possess a PhD Degree in Translation, Interpreting or other relevant fields, have experience in research and teaching at the tertiary level, and preferably some administrative experience. Applicants for the post of Associate Professor should have a strong track record of research.

All qualified applicants will be considered. Preference will be given to those with expertise in the fields of interpreting (in particular, community interpreting), translation theory, audiovisual translation, and practical translation between Chinese and English in various genre areas. An excellent command of both Chinese and English is essential. Applicants with additional knowledge of a third language will be considered favourably.

Initial appointment will be made on a fixed-term contract of two to three years commencing September 2014. Re-appointment thereafter is subject to mutual agreement and availability of funding.

Rank and salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
