The Hong Kong Academy of the Humanities

In honour of our colleague, Martha P. Y. Cheung, a Founding Fellow of the Hong Kong Academy of the Humanities, we are initiating an annual prize to give recognition and encouragement to scholars in Hong Kong working in translation and translations studies.

The China International Translation Contest 2013 organizing committee has chosen 30 award-winning pieces of contemporary Chinese short stories from renowned writers. Participants are required to choose one of the 30 stories to translate into English, French, Russian, Spanish, or Arabic and submit their works before Feb. 28, 2014.

Two short stories, The Gardener and The Massive Rat by David Mitchell, have been made available for a translation contest. The best of the translations will go to a public vote, with the winner ultimately available for sale.

由中国翻译协会《中国翻译》编辑部创办的 “韩素音青年翻译奖” 竞赛创办于1986年,是中国翻译界组织时间最长、影响最广的翻译赛事。


Novels showcasing the power of the writing emerging across the whole breadth of Asia were put on display today as the fifteen books longlisted for the 2012 Man Asian Literary Prize were unveiled.

A Border man’s translation of 8th-century Chinese poetry into Scots has impressed 2012 Stephen Spender Prize judges. The national competition challenges people to translate a poem from any modern or classical language into English.


This year's prize was for translation from Chinese to English.

The winner of the third annual Harvill Secker Young Translators’ Prize was announced on 5 October at the Notes & Letters Festival at King’s Place, London, as part of International Translation Day.

"The award is given to the best book in the best translation. We consider these two qualities to be inseparable. In other words, a great book with a shitty translation won’t win, and a shitty book that was spectacularly translated won’t win." 

The Taiwanese poet Yang Mu (楊牧) has been chosen by an international jury as the winner of the third Newman Prize for Chinese Literature.

The 2012 Science Fiction and Fantasy Translation Awards have just been announced, with Chinese translations winning both the long form and short form prizes.

”DJS Poetry Translation Prize” is set up by a private foundation to promote literary exchange in poetry between China and other countries and to encourage quality translation of poetry. Starting from 2011, one prize each year, USD 1000, recipient to be announced on December 30.
