Publication blurb:

Drawing upon the theories of modern translation studies, this paper attempts to explore the historical development of Chinese translations of the Qur’an. It consists of four chronological periods which extend to around two hundred years. The paper succinctly presents the background, characteristics, nature, content, and evolution of the research. Meanwhile, the significance of the research is reevaluated; the functioning of the descriptive approach in the history is also illustrated, as is the particular approach to the translation history of an Islamic holy scripture.
